47 14% Garden State (2004) - Rated 16 Nov 2024
"honestly, really unmemorable. plot really meandered, I didn't like the characterization of Portman's character"
78 49% Saltburn (2023) - Rated 29 Oct 2024
"okay, this was weird and compelling! the scene-setting and acting is really well done. I am not sure I came away with a compelling character arc or story out of it (unlike say, an obsessive character study like Whiplash)"
38 7% The Darjeeling Limited (2007) - Rated 29 Oct 2024
"I love Wes Anderson's stuff but this was too plodding and loose on the narrative - too much of just showing eccentricity without an apparent enough focus on where the characters/plot are going."
81 57% Bottoms (2023) - Rated 15 Oct 2024
"solid, ridiculously funny movie! the leads have great chemistry, the premise is a little over the top but once you buy into that the humor itself is pretty grounded."
85 78% Whiplash (2014) - Rated 02 Oct 2024
"oh I loved this! such an intense acting performance from both Simmons and Miles Teller. It's a great view into the Drive and I thought that was fascinating."
81 57% Past Lives (2023) - Rated 16 Sep 2024
"A good food-for-thought film, but I had a hard time with relatability on the childhood couple - I think not enough was built up from the earlier portion of the story and I found the incompatibleness readily apparent which made it hard to root for them."
77 46% Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - Rated 11 Aug 2024
"was okay but didn't rise beyond most marvel action - the slapstick-ness of the comedy is a little too high-volume in a way that takes the oxygen out of having more relevant/emotional characters. Wish it also contributed to more world-building to the MCU as well."
70 30% The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023) - Rated 31 Jul 2024
"a pretty uneven movie, I think there was a good story in here but pacing and some performances were off. For what should have mainly been a psychological drama (the action in this movie didn't add much at all), side characters were underdeveloped to the point where they could have been skipped. Rachel Zegler's character was too overacted and lacked a real human focus, and while Tom Blyth was pretty good, there still wasn't enough screentime given to the conflict in his character."
82 62% Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008) - Rated 08 Sep 2023
"Truly delightful little film, the satirical takes on life up north were hilarious."
76 43% Thelma & Louise (1991) - Rated 26 Jul 2023
"Classic 90s adventure caper, a little tragic a little "too real" at times. Loved the chemistry and Susan Sarandon's performance."
