99 50% Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - Rated 04 Mar 2008
"A love story about a man erasing his girlfriend from his mind? Who would have thought that would have been the main plotline of one of the best romantic comedies of all-time. Carrey gives a wonderfully nuanced, quiet performance as Joel, while Winslet gives a career best performance as the impulsive, reckless Clementine. Michel Gondry, along with Charlie Kaufman, gives us one of the most creative, bizarre, beautiful love stories ever. Wonderful special effects and wacky music, too."
99 50% The Piano (1993) - Rated 04 Mar 2008
"A beautiful film about love, passion, and desire told through the eyes of Ada, a young mute Scotwoman (a ferocious, yearning, captivating turn by Hunter) married away to New Zealand, along with her beloved piano. Jane Campion stakes her claim as one the great directors while Nyman not only gives us one of the most beautiful scores of all-time, but enables us to, through the music, enter into Ada's repressed, silent passion filled world. Certainly one of the best films of the 1990's."
96 25% Closer (2004) - Rated 04 Mar 2008
"When director Mike Nichols pairs a raw, ferocious, cruel, sexy screenplay with four beautiful, talented actors the result is captivating. This film focuses on the inner-workings of two couples in London: Anna the photographer, Larry the dermatologist, Alice the stripper, and Dan the writer. When a pass-the-lover-game ensues passions are stirred and people begin to get nasty. 4 fascintating characters are given scintillating interpretations by Roberts, Owen, Portman, and Law. "Hello, stranger.""
94 0% Before Sunset (2004) - Rated 04 Mar 2008
"How wonderful it is to see two characters we once loved re-unite after all these years. Hawke's Jesse and Delpy's Celine are two of the most well-drawn characters in recent cinema. Strong-headed, prickly, witty, and lonely these two characters remain both of these actors best work. Along with a beautiful, rolling screenplay and wonderful music composed by Delpy, this movie uses the same formula as its prequel "Before Sunrise", only this time everyone is more seasoned, and therefore, better."
