88 67% Hanna (2011) - Rated 14 Oct 2011
"I thought this movie was great. Hanna is a wild child, raised in isolation by her father, deep in the woods near the Arctic Circle. Her education? Survival. Fighting. Assassination. She can gut a moose and kick your ass. And once she's out in the world, it turns out everyone is after her. Seriously, this movie is so much fun -- it's a spy thriller, it's science fiction, it's coming of age - you can't take anything in it seriously, but it'll still pull you in and have you rootin"
85 46% Cleaner (2008) - Rated 14 Dec 2008
"I didn't know this was a straight-to-DVD release until after I'd watched it. Might that have influenced my decision to rent it? Probably, so I'm glad I didn't know, because I really enjoyed the movie. Great cast, interesting story. Okay, maybe not the most brilliant movie, but if TV dramas were like this, I'd be home every night!"
85 46% Outsourced (2006) - Rated 12 Dec 2008
"What a sweet movie! Although it doesn't make you think very hard, it does make you smile. After some of the gloomy movies I've watched recently, this was just what I needed to cheer me up."
85 46% An American Crime (2007) - Rated 09 Dec 2008
"Beautifully acted, and who doesn't love Ellen Page? But now I better understand those who condemn movies about the underbelly of life. Yes, it's a true story; no, this is not life as most of us experience it. What does it teach us? Nothing, other than what we already knew: the most depraved thing you can imagine, there are folks out there more depraved than that. Is there a name for this genre? If not, may I suggest one? Depravity porn."
75 17% WALL·E (2008) - Rated 05 Dec 2008
"I ordered this on Blue-Ray to watch while my grandchildren were here for Thanksgiving. I was surprised, when the movie was first released, to read that conservative & religious groups were up in arms over the film's trashing-of-the planet/decline-of-humanity message. What, a Disney movie with a message? So I had to watch it. A great film for kids; probably a good film to show a friend you're trying to introduce to sci-fi. But it's no 2001, or even a Contact."
78 21% Transsiberian (2008) - Rated 05 Dec 2008
"Good but not great. You can't go too far wrong with Woody Harrelson and Ben Kingsley, but as an earlier commenter noted, you can see the plot twists coming a long way ahead. And it starts slow, real slow."
85 46% Death at a Funeral (2007) - Rated 21 Nov 2008
"British humor . . . broad and ribald."
85 46% Get Smart (2008) - Rated 14 Nov 2008
"I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected something hammy and slapstick, with repetitive sight gags, a la Leslie Nielsen. This was actually a good, interesting, entertaining movie."
95 92% The Incredible Melting Man (1977) - Rated 13 Nov 2008
"The alert flick of alert flicks. Alert flicks are the ones you and your buds watch while on alert duty, then watch again and again. I wish this were available on DVD . . . I'd subject all my friends to it."
95 92% The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) - Rated 13 Nov 2008
"I'm about to give up on American movies. This French film is one reason why. There's more suspense in the scene where Jean-Dominique shaves his father's face then there is in twenty exploding cars."
