"(s1 80, s2 85) a solid emotional family story wrapped around time fuckery, blurring the lines of schizophrenia and shamanism. season 2 gets pretty wild in mostly good ways"

85 71% The Babadook (2014) - Rated 26 Oct 2024
"the movie keeps up a nice sense of... suffering, and dread, it's a good slowburn. the actual babadook is kind of more goofy than scary in its appearances. it works pretty well doing its grief allegory thing with the looming but docile ending"
80 41% The Invisible Man (1933) - Rated 26 Oct 2024
"pretty funny bastard sci-fi. the special effects were surprisingly great"
85 71% The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - Rated 26 Oct 2024
"it's a classic for a reason baby. the first half is pretty great, nasty and creepy - but the last third goes a bit wild and dumb. some great shots"
85 71% The Wicker Man (1973) - Rated 26 Oct 2024
"the musicals were surprisingly good and really lended a dreamlike quality to the scenes that carries out through the film"
75 19% Edge of Tomorrow (2014) - Rated 07 Oct 2024
"kinda goofy, and fast and loose without much grounding. still, a pretty entertaining action flick. the combat, use of powersuits, and enemy designs were pretty unimaginative/lackluster"
90 90% The Witch (2016) - Rated 28 Sep 2024
"very good sound design. kind of a meme to pan up to a forest with "scary movie" chanting and clangs, but it Works. the story shows the family unravel, but some of the threads could have been pulled a bit more for better dramatic effect, still it weaves in witch hysteria well. the closeups of faces with intense lighting made some absolutely incredible shots. lastly, some good child acting work in here."
80 41% Woke (2020) - Rated 06 Sep 2024
"[s1-2] it's exploring some interesting racial topics, but the writing feels a bit wack. between "5g shoes," the Laura character, and other characters bending a fair amount, with keef kind of developing, and backsliding, and ayana just moving in and joining the main cast in season 2 after being rather antagonistic in season 1. so it's alright but a bit sloppy"
80 41% No Exit (2022) - Rated 06 Sep 2024
"decently entertaining as a thriller with some surprising twists. the film plays its hand oddly early, and doesn't develop the characters/plot any more than it needs to."
