78 62% The Hunt (2020) - Rated 08 Dec 2024
"Doesn't quite land the ending but until then it's a solid fun ride. Unpredictable enough to keep me guessing and the action is fresh enough as well."
78 62% Heretic (2024) - Rated 25 Nov 2024
"Has a nice eerie/creepy vibe in the beginning, then kind of loses some momentum but even at its worst manages to stay pretty good. All three of the cast members are great, although I get why Grant gets the majority of the praise. So dialogue-heavy though that this won't be everyone's cup of tea."
72 55% Gladiator 2 (2024) - Rated 24 Nov 2024
"The ending was an overly complicated mess, and what makes it even worse is that it felt completely unnecessary to go that way at all. Apart from that I think the movie would have been pretty good even, and definitely a positive surprise. Mescal couldn't carry the film but luckily Pascal was there to help. Otherwise the cast was solid enough, without bigger problems or heroes."
78 62% Blink Twice (2024) - Rated 20 Nov 2024
"I very much liked this one. It has some minor flaws, especially in terms of runtime, pacing, and perhaps tone, but all in all it's a very solid film and an impressive enough directorial debut."
68 28% Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - Rated 17 Nov 2024
"If a deeply flawed movie is aware of how deeply flawed it is, and makes fun of its flaws, is it now a smarter, better movie? Or is it a deeply flawed movie that tried to get away with it through lazy self-reference? Without Wolverine this would have been downright unwatchable due to how infuriating the rapid fire of poor meta jokes has become. Somehow Wolverine managed to ground it a little bit. It's certainly not a great movie. Barely even a movie. But I find some ig reels entertaining too."
60 17% Terrifier 2 (2022) - Rated 11 Nov 2024
"I hated the first one but this one actually has a storyline, albeit not a very good one, and thus improves from there and reaches the heights of a way too long B-horror. Lauren LaVera is good, Elliott Fullam is bad, the clown is pretty good and the clown girl is pretty bad. I liked the score and the 80s vibe, but the movie's a bit all over the place, probably not least because of how long it is. I did appreciate the attempt of adding some fantasy elements into it, but they WERE pretty dumb."
57 11% Creepshow (1982) - Rated 02 Nov 2024
"I'm going to be honest, I watched this in parts (one story at a time) and I forgot to watch the last one (it was a rental). Anyway, it wasn't very good. It wasn't very entertaining either, but it had it's moments here and there."
48 5% An American Werewolf in Paris (1997) - Rated 31 Oct 2024
"I don't know what to say. It's bad. Is it so bad that it's good? I'm not sure cause I honestly don't know how much of this mess was intended to be bad. All of it? None of it? I will say it was better - no, not better. let's say more entertaining - than I expected. But it also felt like one of those garbage comedies like American Pie that I pretty much hate, so that wasn't great. Yeah, I would never recommend it to anyone, but I guess there are situations when one might think this was ok."
80 72% I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Rated 29 Oct 2024
"Ok, so right now I mainly see the issues I had with this film, but that's because I can't stop comparing it to Lynch's stuff. That comparison alone says a lot, and I did quite like the movie. It does a bit too much of telling rather than showing, and it definitely serves as a reminder for why I like Lynch over just about anyone. But with that said, this movie isn't really trying to be Lynch. It's clearly inspired by him, but it also does its own thing. Which is fine, just not as good as Lynch."
68 28% The Vast of Night (2020) - Rated 28 Oct 2024
"It's a charming little film, that tries a bit too hard to be charming and manages to drag despite its fairly short runtime. The cast is solid, but the movie itself never really goes anywhere."
