The Invitation (2022) - Rated 13 Jul 2025
"Felt like a bad, generic, throwaway, made-for-TV film. Boring, predictable, and I would say borderline misclassified as a horror. The possibly one positive attribute would be that the set and location made for an interesting backdrop."
Superman (2025) - Rated 12 Jul 2025
"Really exceeded my expectations. It's a simple enough story, but focuses on the humanity of Superman, and jumps right into things rather than being another origin story. There's a good amount of humor, but it feels fitting and didn't take away the seriousness of the situations, and I liked the whole motif of "maybe that's the real punk rock" being trusting and believing in the goodness of people. Overall, just super entertaining and well-done."
Opus (2025) - Rated 12 Jul 2025
"Tries to have a slow burn build-up, but the problem is that it just...doesn't build up to anything. The first reveal doesn't really make any sense, and then the second reveal is I think even lamer, leaving an ultimately completely lackluster feeling."
Elio (2025) - Rated 09 Jul 2025
"It's fine, overall. Visually, it's great. But the script is lacking to a point where things feel rushed and shallow when they should be more impactful and heartfelt, leaving a feeling of falling below its potential and being more forgettable."
Heads of State (2025) - Rated 06 Jul 2025
"You know, all I was hoping going in was that I would get a few good laughs, and I think it delivered on that and more."
Double Blind (2023) - Rated 04 Jul 2025
"I thought it was surprisingly well-done. It managed to hold my interest throughout, and had some genuinely creepy scenes that make the "horror" tag well-earned."
Last Night in Soho (2021) - Rated 03 Jul 2025
"While it seemed like it had so much potential early on, it unfortunately starts to flounder and lose its way midway through and ultimately feels a bit unfulfilled. Stylistically, with the cinematography, visuals, music, sets, and acting, I think it's phenomenal for the most part. I just think the script is a bit lacking."
The Thicket (2024) - Rated 02 Jul 2025
"It's okay, but I wouldn't call it great. It feels like there's too many characters and not enough time really for any of them to breathe and become more known or develop. Dinklage is good, but at times his gruff voice feels a little too forced. Lewis is also decent, but we don't really learn enough about her character other than one small anecdote."
Freaky (2020) - Rated 01 Jul 2025
"Pretty terrible. Was hopeful that the long, unfunny setup to the body swap was the price to pay for a hilarious tone shift, but it never delivers, and remains unfunny and ridiculous for the entirety of the film."
The Nice Guys (2016) - Rated 30 Jun 2025
"Really entertaining, Crowe and Gosling are paired well for dark comedy. My main criticisms would revolve around some ridiculous plot points and the somewhat downer of an ending. But overall, great."
