"Very effective and memorable. You wouldn't watch this for fun."

97 94% | Singin' in the Rain (1952) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"Best film to watch for introduction to classic MGM musicals. Comedy and musical numbers are energetic, and scenes depicting early days of talking pictures, based on actual problems faced by film makers, some who also worked with this title, are of course interesting. Only the romantic scenes drag awkwardly. During those you can remember how these songs were actually performed by Jean Hagen (comedienne who played screechy-voiced blond Lina here) and just lip-synched by Debbie Reynolds..."

59 54% | Casino Royale (1967) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"Visually rather interesting case, with eclectic cast, some psychedelia, and opening titles animated by Richard Williams Studios to the earwormiest tune ever heard in a Bond film. While I don't mind purely silly humour, this film would had required a script that relies on something more interesting than repetitive malechauvinism."

"At its best if you take it as a comedy, albeit a one that can be melancholic. Based on true events, this is likely way too likeable compared to reality, given the subject on crime and media circuses, and to be honest I love this film because of that."

81 76% | The Emperor's New Groove (2000) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"One of the times when a Disney feature film wanted to be primarily a comedy and funny at it, and it succeeded."

69 63% | West Side Story (1961) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"Dance scenes are unbelievably capturing, music is unforgettable. That all is ultimately gorgeous! Somehow the main characters Maria and Tony can get grating, I'm not sure if it's about choice of actors, or the way they're written to seem emotionally detached from other characters except for each other. Either way it makes you question whether their romance is good for them after all, and hope for more screentime for others, who are complex in more compelling way."

59 54% | Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"Features some so iconic movie spoof jokes that you can only refer to them by default in discussions about movie clichés. Overall rather funny experience, and has memorable opening number. Could show better taste at some points, but never gets as bad as in certain sequel scenes."

69 63% | A Hard Day's Night (1964) - Rated 07 Jun 2015
"While pacing is at times a bit awkward for a music film, this is pretty fun look at some of the best times of maybe the most interesting band in all time. Help! later on will have perhaps better rhythm and groove going on, while this one features maybe more interesting dialogues and some tighter scenes."

"I'd still love to see openly gay film about the sort of cowboys who chase thieves and shoot guns while riding on horses in the old romanticed west. But this turned out to be adorable too. Heartfeld performances from good actors make up any negative pointers some could make about the plot."
