90 80% Donnie Darko (2001) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"I really enjoyed this movie and the surreal aspects of it. The story is a complex one with many different ways of interpreting it. I enjoyed the wide range of emotions the film manages to elicit from the viewer. Definitely one to watch more than once though."
10 5% The Matrix (1999) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"The Matrix is one film that I found to be over-the-top, pretentious, badly acted and all together a waste of my time. From a heavily cliche-ridden dialogue to wooden acting from Keanu to a story line that really comes out of the fifties this movie was terrible. Its only redeeming feature is its action sequences and its great cinematography but neither of these can make up for the shortfalls in the story and dialogue. Lots of people rate it highly but it was not for me."
70 45% Spider-Man 3 (2007) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"This third outing for spiderman was just as good as the previous two. It was entertaining and the story was enjoyable. Fitting three big spiderman stories into one movie was a tough feat and I thought this movie pulled it off. The dark side of the story also played out well and so I would recommend watching this movie."
75 55% Jackie Brown (1997) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"Not being a huge fan of Tarantino I was not holding out much hope for this movie. However it was surprisingly entertaining with nice dialogue and interesting characters all tied together with an entertaining story. Pam Grier plays the title role excellently."
95 95% Zulu (1964) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
""One thousand British soldiers have been massacred. While I stood here talking peace, a war has started." and with that we have Zulu, a great movie of epic proportions. It excellently captures war and the feelings of the men involved. With great cinematography and music with outstanding acting and great dialogue this movie deserves all the accolades it gets. It is does not try to preach one way or another it merely tells the story of how 100 british men fought against 4000 zulu warriors."
80 65% My Fair Lady (1964) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"This movie is a classic. Bringing the musical My Fair Lady to the big screen it is done superbly with great performances from the leads. Not being a big fan of musicals I still enjoyed this one as the story is powerful enough to hold the whole thing together with the music and songs being much an integral part of it. It is a hilarious and heart-warming movie with a feel-good vibe which should leave the viewer thoroughly satisfied."
30 15% Finding Nemo (2003) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"Finding Nemo's best feature is its animation. Apart from that the story is dull, the characters silly and the dialogue trite. Similar to a lot of current animations it lacks any edge, the bad guys aren't bad and the hero is not so heroic. Sure, kids may get a kick out of it but apart from a cutesy animation I don't think it is worthy of much more."
60 35% The Fast and the Furious (2001) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"A no-brainer and an easy watch, this movie is entertaining without being taxing. Its not a serious movie but it is done well, played straight and for that I would recommend it if you want to just veg out in front of the TV and switch off."
90 80% American Beauty (1999) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"American Beauty is a great movie. Kevin Spacey plays his part excellently and the surreal aspect underlying the whole movie is fantastic. The atmosphere and the way the story is told make this seemingly nondescript drama something far more. Underlying it all is the idea that change is within us all and we don't all have to be stuck doing what we don't want. Overall a fantastic movie."
50 25% Sideways (2004) - Rated 22 Jan 2009
"Sideways is a slow, easy-going movie that lacks any real bite and gives you this gnawing feeling that it is trying to be more than it really is. It does make you want a glass of wine though."
