75 50% Star Trek (2009) - Rated 05 Jul 2009
"Getting star trek back out of the nerd cor(e)ner, JJ Abrams gives the aging franchse a shiny (!) overhaul, not completely discarding the dynamcics of the old enterprise crew's relationships, but giving them new drive. I love that the second movie is rumoured to not even have a proer villain in it, but be centered around the characters pretty much entirely. The best "Reboot" since Batman."
90 87% Coraline (2009) - Rated 03 Jul 2009
"I'm a sucker for animation anyway, and this is no exception. The attention to detail, visual as well as in character design, and the scary and strange storyline make it impossible even for Dakota Fanning to spoil this beautiful adventure, she might even have had a hand in making it even better. Instant classic!"
60 29% The Rock (1996) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"Back in the days when michael bay still made movies, some of them actually were very entertaining. Sean Connery as an ex-terrorist is a one of a kind idea, and with the extremely loud background of air-strikes and helicopters, this is simply a very entertaining action flick."
40 4% A Knight's Tale (2001) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"ridiculously silly anachronstic medieval rock mash-up, that once again only rises abovie mediocrity due to Heath Ledger. not much else to say about it."
85 70% No Country for Old Men (2007) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"the most unconventional addition to the thriller genre since film noir. Silent, brutal and surprising, like the two antagonists, this movie has no respect for action-, drama- or thriller-genre-specific standards, and thus keeps you engaged despite its slow speed and long runtime."
80 62% Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"an unprecedentedly beautiful fantasy tale that brought new wind into both american and asian cinema. Dramatic lovestories, epic landscapes and great choreographies made this my favourite martial arts movie to date. Many like it followed, but tiger & dragon remains firmly on top!"
50 12% Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"The classic Adventure genre is back. Without its stellar cast, this would just have been an average hollywood romp, but Johnny Depp and the rest of the crew make it their own and are clearly having fun. it's witty and smart, but still not too smart to be an over-the-top action flick set in the underestimated world of swashbuckling, treasure islands and cursed pirate gold."
90 87% Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"seeing this one of a kind war-dramedy still brings a tear to my eye even >20 years later. I'm a sucker for Robin Williams, but this is a movie everyone should see AND LOVE."
90 87% The Breakfast Club (1985) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"very insightful, adorable characters, the right portion of comedy and drama and a lot of teenage conflicts and love stories make this the high school movie to end all high school movies. at least it should have been."
65 37% Crash (2005) - Rated 02 Jul 2009
"After i saw the movie, i thought to myself it was a little too tame to be a move about racism in every one f us. nearly (nearly!) every branch of the storyline ended in a happy end, and i thought that was absolution or justification for their actions. However, it is the most realistic take on every-day-racism there is, because all the little and not-so-little insults are what you get away with, as they are the most persistent and subtle manifestations and are still tolerated by society."
