"One of those, where you wait for the point when it starts to work and then it ends."

"Tries to out-Spielberg Spielberg, when The Road Warrior was already better than Spielberg. Doesn't have any of the angst or the melancholy, which is why it doesn't work when it mimics The Road Warrior. The Neverland children are only justified through analogy. The base and superstructure dichotomy of Bartertown is clever. The Thunderdome fight is the only truly great sequence."

"When the film is about these american bourgeoisie being dragged into the midsts of ancient Islamic violence and a satire on american chauvinism, it's great. When it's quoting Lawrence of Arabia and The Wild Bunch, it's less impressive."

"Forgoes all nuance and subtlety, the montages ascend to filmic heaven. The through line is embarrassing. Hopkins, the score and the brides are awesome."

"Kinski, off the coast, gazing at the desolate slave castle: "So far, Africa has been a disappointment." Dubbing was distracting."

"Some good direction. Insane story, that hits the nail on the head occasionally: immortality stunting the human race and there being absolutely nothing in space."
