90 68% | The Big Bang Theory (2007) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"The Big Bang Theory is often found on lists of best sitcoms, with good reason. A skilled cast working with brilliant writers sustained the excellence of TBBT's comedy through its twelve seasons. The characters grow and evolve throughout the show's run, creating new situations and dynamics for humour. The science that is frequently referenced in the show is at a high level, but is always presented in a way that supports the comedy without overshadowing it. Highly recommended."

95 95% | Downton Abbey (2010) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"British dramatic near-perfection. The story of an upper-class family and their service staff in a traditional and majestic English country estate house in post-Edwardian Britain. Impactful events and changes of the era are interwoven with the smaller, yet always fascinating, details of the characters' daily lives. Yes, Downton Abbey is ultimately a soap opera, but one of the highest order."

90 68% | Roman Holiday (1953) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"Gregory Peck in fine form along with an enchantingly charming Audrey Hepburn in her first starring role. Cinematic romantic magic from the 1950's."

40 13% | Signs (2002) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"M. Night Shyamalan seems to have two kinds of fans. Those who like Sixth Sense, and just Sixth Sense, and those who also like most of his other movies. I'm in the former group, and like many of my fellow only-Sixth-Sense-fans, I found Signs to be uneven, leaden, and often just strange."

20 4% | Under the Skin (2014) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"It has long seemed to me that a certain type of film-goer, one who rarely has anything good to say about any work of popular culture, can only express appreciation for a work of art if it is something that most people would find odd or incomprehensible. For such a film-goer, a film's lack of accessibility is perhaps its greatest merit. And for such a film-goer, Under The Skin would rank very high on their list of great works of cinema. For the rest of us, not so much. Caveat emptor."

80 36% | V for Vendetta (2006) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"Exquisite performance by Hugo Weaving, with strong work from Natalie Portman. The pacing never lets up, with a gripping narrative tension that leads to a well-deserved explosive finale. The politics of the movie--and this is a very political movie--are ultimately un-nuanced and reactionary, more of a protest than a solution. Nevertheless, it's still an energetic catharsis for the frustration of living in our world of endlessly compromised politics."

90 68% | Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"One of Hollywood's best comedies. Excellent performances by the three leads, working from a finely-crafted screenplay that stays pitch-perfect from start to finish. Highly recommended."

90 68% | Groundhog Day (1993) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"Bill Murray at his best in front of the camera, Harold Ramis at his best behind it. A rare Hollywood mainstream comedy that playfully, yet profoundly, examines our deepest questions about the meaning of life. Very entertaining, uplifting and even instructive. Highly recommended."

80 36% | Local Hero (1983) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"A gem of British filmmaking from the early 80's. Warm, charming and witty, a perfect couch movie for a quiet fall day."

90 68% | Aliens (1986) - Rated 19 Jul 2022
"One of the best action and sci-fi movies ever made. Still holds up more than 30 years after its debut. Sharp script, excellent actors, excellent special effects and cinematography, directed by the great James Cameron."
