"The likable cast keeps this one afloat longer than expected, and there are certainly some laughs, but it eventually becomes tiresome, and even grating. I think I only enjoy JB Smoove as Leon (but damn is Leon great)."
53 35% The Marine (2006) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"I always find these type of films the toughest to rate...because it's a blast, but it's hard to call it good. Clearly, it's intentionally campy, and it almost doesn't know it's not the 1980s. Robert Patrick is all in, and I've always enjoyed the charms of John Cena. Recommended to fans of the genre...bad but fun? I dunno."
16 5% Jury Duty (1995) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"I'm not a Pauly Shore hater (legit enjoy Encino Man), but this is near laugh-less. At least with Bio-Dome a year later, he just goes back to Full Pauly, vs this lame not quite normal, but not bizarre enough snooze character."
80 75% Win It All (2017) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"Maybe Swanberg's best (and he's usually pretty solid), thanks in large part to an excellent performance from Johnson, who never allows this character to be annoying/detestable, which Eddie cold have easily been. I already loved Joe Lo Truglio, but was great to see him play a sort of older brother everyman."
21 15% Rings (2017) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"They added iPhones to the mix. Yawn. A moment here or there, and it looks okay...but it's as bad as you think it might be."
73 65% Angus (1995) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"The best parts of the film are those revolving around the relationships that are flourishing in Angus's life: the one with his grandfather (George C. Scott in a delightful role) and Troy. Rick Sanford is a one-note bully, and Lefevere is a mere idea of a character. Still, there's a lot of charm and the positive message still holds up."
94 90% Super Inframan (1975) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"Classic kung-fu meets rubber suit monsters and it's magical. Some of the most fun in all the genre."
61 55% Beyond the Gates (2016) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"The dialogue is flat and the acting wooden, but there are a lot of good ideas in play here. Clever premise (Jumanji: The Horror Film), and some creepy imagery. The game reminded me of "Atmosfear", a VHS board game I used to play myself as a teen."
60 45% The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh (2012) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"Mediocre VFX and bogged down by voice-over early and often keep this one from really taking off, but patience is rewarded with some genuine frights. Aaron Poole carries the film well (and does so with very little dialogue), and credit to the production design team for creating a house in which I don't think I could last one night."
94 90% War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) - Rated 16 Jul 2017
"The rare franchise where each film gets stronger. Visually stunning (VFX are truly the best in all of film), brilliant score, and a riveting script. The Academy needs to catch up with technology...Andy Serkis deserves a nomination for his work here."
