64 18% Red Notice (2021) - Rated 15 Nov 2021
"Red Notice? More like Red Noticeable Stunt Doubles, amirite? Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds are buff dudes, but they are also getting old and somehow I kept spotting their stunt doubles despite the heavy use of CGI. Not even good CGI. Some of those backgrounds were atrocious. The plot was also razor thin. The opening chase was fun, but with the subsequent heist of each subsequent egg, the movie got less and less interesting."
58 12% Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) - Rated 25 Oct 2021
"A lot of critics noted this film's "lean" run time and the fact that this is the shortest comic book film in some time. What others call lean, I view as choppy. This film has very bad flow. It's obvious to me that this movie went through many re-writes during production and post and then was edited with a very heavy hand. The result is a throwback to an era where superhero movies were campy and kitschy. AKA: Bad."
79 59% Dune (2021) - Rated 25 Oct 2021
"Slow burn. Front-loading the story with world-building & mythology throws off the movie's pacing. Dune doesn't feel bound by a 3-Act structure. The climax, if there was one, didn't feel like a climax. It felt like, as Zendaya's Chani says, this whole film was "Just the beginning." Therefore the ending of the film comes as a shock. If it weren't for the 2.5 hour runtime I'd have thought, "That's it?" It's all a big tease. Still, it is a Villenueve film, so of course it's a technical beauty."
83 81% No Time to Die (2021) - Rated 10 Oct 2021
"There's certainly finality to this Bond film. Daniel Craig had long promised he would not do another film and it's clear all the way through that he meant it. A good film overall, it's hampered by choices made in the disappointing "Spectre." Craig and Lea Seydoux lack chemistry and I didn't buy their character's speedy romance from the previous film. Therefore, making them "endgame" in this film sets it up for failure. This film is not without its charms. The sequence in Cuba is a highlight."
