76 44% The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) - Rated 15 Aug 2023
"The movie is weird and that's what makes it interesting to watch too. It keeps you guessing how the movie is going to end and it is the end which is unfortunately open and non-satisfying. The Irish English is rather entertaining to hear. The underlying theme is a tad sad but the makers have managed to eke comedy out of it. I still find it bonkers that it got 9 Oscar nominations. Didn't think it deserved all that."
80 71% Changeling (2008) - Rated 24 Dec 2022
"I had watched Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino before this one and I think I am fan of his style. The piano laden background music which he himself composes. And just the whole way of picturization, story-telling and the dialogues. Anyway coming to the movie, Angelina Jolie may be in the news nowadays for all the wrong reasons but this movie shows she is a damn fine actor. The 30s setting of the movie was well done too. And the true story helps."
74 36% Marley & Me (2008) - Rated 24 Dec 2022
"I read the book years before I saw the movie. The book obviously had more meat to it. However, the movie isn't bad. The casting of Wilson and Aniston gives a fresh / young vibe to the movie. It was definitely entertaining and a must if you are a pet-lover."
80 71% Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - Rated 24 Dec 2022
"The Black Panther movies are those rare movies where Blacks aren't cast for diversity but they are the movie! It is a movie that sits well with the current times what with the General being a petite lady and Black Panther's teenage sister being the science wizard. It's quite an intelligently made movie. The humour's also sharp especially when directed at the colonial past of the Whites."
85 92% Catch Me If You Can (2002) - Rated 24 Dec 2022
"This movie is a legend. There are many movies I have watched, enjoyed and forgotten but this one stays fresh for many of its scenes. It is one of DiCaprio's and Spielberg's best works. Add Tom Hanks and you just have a story that you never forget."
39 3% Garden State (2004) - Rated 04 Sep 2022
"This movie was mostly a waste of time. For a brief moment it gave me a Silver Linings Playbook vibe since the two main characters are dealing with mental health issues. However, the movie does not get serious except for may be the last 10-15 minutes. The comedy comes across as spoofy rather than funny."
78 57% Nope (2022) - Rated 27 Aug 2022
"Movies about aliens tend to have this end-of-humanity vibe to them. This one is unlike any of them. The movie is hard to bracket - Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller - all would be good ways to put it. All in all it was certainly enjoyable to watch. I found it more digestible than the director's previous creation (Us) since the ending is a proper one that adds up instead of leaving it hanging."
80 71% Bullet Train (2022) - Rated 27 Aug 2022
"This movie is sheer entertainment. No, don't go in try to nitpick loopholes in the plot or the over-the-top situations. Just enjoy it. There is a very Guy Ritchie like vibe to the movie reminding me of Brad Pitt from Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels as well as Snatch. There is loads of obvious as well as layered humour and many moments that shock you as well. Also, wait till the end after the first set of credits roll."
77 49% The Black Phone (2022) - Rated 24 Jul 2022
"It is difficult to write a detailed review of this movie without including any spoilers. Let us just say the movie is definitely fun to watch though I won't call it a must-watch or outstanding. You need to go in with an open mind for the movie."
83 85% Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - Rated 24 Jul 2022
"I haven't watched the original Top Gun but this was completely enjoyable nonetheless. There are a very few movies that go into the nitty gritty of fighter planes and as a geek the film is a delight. The VFX is pretty good and the storyline is solid as well. The movie also smartly caters to the current times to make it more inclusive by including characters you probably wouldn't have seen a decade ago."
