A young widow, an aging widower-returnee, and a priest from a bankrupt parish are struggling to come to terms with the post-war environment, complete with its prejudices, illusions, and unpleasant mentality. What follows is a romantic comedy set in rough landscape, about a woman who falls in love with a local priest. He is not blind to her love, but is unable to choose between the church and her, until the circumstances force him to make his choice.

A successful but also hedonist young man gets afflicted with HIV by accident, eventually being abandoned by everybody around him. He becomes a problem for society until meeting another unfortunate person like him.

Luna and Amar's relationship is under strain. Amar loses his job for being drunk at work. Luna is very worried about having a child with Amar. Then Amar takes a job in a conservative Muslim community of Wahhabis. In a visit, she notices that men and veiled women live in strict segregation and are closely watched. Luna asks Amar to return home, but Amar insists that this has brought him peace and keeps him from drinking. Luna realises that Amar's attitude to religion has drastically changed. Kosovo, 1999. As the civil war between Serbs and Albanians rages, hatred has replaced tolerance, and towns are brutally divided along ethnic lines. The young Serbian widow Danica lives with her two sons Vlado and Danilo in a predominantly Serbian community close to a small town which the River Ibar divides into an Albanian and a Serbian section.
