Kaziuk, a stubborn peasant and his pregnant wife live in a backwoods village. The village is once visited by a couple of wanderers, and strange things start to happen afterwards. A new schoolteacher is sent to the area. She stirs erotic fantasies in Kaziuk. In a stir of frustration Kaziuk cuts down a family tree - a sacrilegious act in the eyes of his family. The action takes place in a custom office somewhere sounh of Poland. Basia, her 14-years old son and 17-years old cousin are travelling back from The West to Poland. Their bahama-coloured Fiat is filled up with capitalistic goods: food, clothes, etc. The both ladies are ready to sacrifice a lot to bring some of the goods home. However the custom officer appears to be a martinet and a beaurocrat, shockingly just and honest.

In this depressing but insightful drama, Pradera (Edward Zantara) is a young poet who decides to turn his back on society. Moving to a small village, he takes a job as a lumberjack and rents a modest room from an elderly landlady. Pradera soon realizes his new life is far less satisfying than the idyllic country life he had imagined.
