Mysterious cowboy Bill Patton (as Bob Norton) arrives, "in the land of the West - on the banks of the Rio Grande," at the "Bar-V" ranch. Ostensibly seeking employment, Mr. Patton is revealed, as the plot unravels, an undercover Texas Ranger. Parents are fighting and their little girl runs away. The worrying brings them closer together and when she returns all is well with their relationship again.

Prospector Jack Remsen has hit a mother lode of hard luck: He can't pay the mortgage on his mine, and the skinflint repossessing it demands Jack's beloved horse as an additional penalty. When Jack angrily rides off on his own horse, he's branded a thief and hunted by the law. Although a wanted man, Jack remains in the territory because of his promise to look after the daughter of his late mining partner.

Outlaw Al Jennings is idolized by a young boy who wants to be just like him. Jennings decides to take the boy on a three-day "tryout" to show him that the life of an outlaw is not one he wants to live.
