Dr. Ravi (Rajendra Kumar) returns from America & takes up a job at a local hospital. His uncle, who brought him up, planned for him to marry his daughter Rajni (Simi Garewal), but Ravi, unaware of this, promises marriage to Shanthi (Vyjayanthimala), a nurse in his hospital. After their marriage, Shanthi falls sick after constantly assisting Ravi in his cancer research, & not wanting to be a burden on Ravi, runs away. In her absence, Ravi is forced to marry Rajni, to save his ailing uncle's life.
