College professor Charles Rankin (Welles) lives in a quiet Connecticut town with his wife Mary (Young). Little does his wife and his neighbors know, Rankin is actually notorious Nazi war criminal Franz Kindler. But his true identity may be revealed when mild-mannered war crimes commissioner Wilson (Robinson) arrives, posing as an antiques dealer.

A scientist invents a serum that keeps a dog's head alive after its body dies. When the scientist dies of a heart attack, his crazed assistant cuts off his head and, using the serum, keeps the doctor's head alive and forces it to help him on an experiment to give his hunchbacked nurse assistant a new body. In the final days of WWII, an earnest but somewhat dense sailor is lost at sea. Months later, he makes a landing, but, not realizing that the war is over and thinking that he is in Japan, he surrenders to Mexican police, who mistake him for a serial killer. (imdb)

This Brechtian musical about a young woman who flees from her decrepit, noble fiancé and marries a sailor is an interesting, although not a completely successful attempt to translate the sort of stage show to film. It has some good points, including the complete abandonment of the sort of surrealistic stage design that had enlivened the silent cinema. Instead, this tries for a purely cinematic technique, including multiple exposures, undercranking and distorting camera angles and lenses. (imdb)

The Soviet Union, just after the Nazi invasion in 1941. Natasha is a Red Cross volunteer who is dispatched to a field hospital located in an old pre-revolution mansion. The American test pilot John Hill who'd been in Russia on a goodwill mission, is wounded in a battle and brought to the hospital. As he slowly recovers from his wounds, Hill falls in love with Natasha. One day the crisis develops when the hospital personnel are forced to move immediately to Leningrad as the Nazis advance.
