Nicholas (Nedumudi Venu) & son Freddy (Mohanlal), who are more of friends than father-son, make a living doing odd jobs. They become involved with two criminals - JJ (Thilakan) & Chacha (K.P. Ummer), when JJ recruits them to kidnap Chacha, but Chacha escapes. Later, they learn that JJ & Chacha are after a piano which belonged to Freddy's girlfriend's dad. Suspecting that there is more to the piano than meets the eye, Freddy & Nicholas also go in search of it, with pal Appaji (N.L. Balakrishnan).

Kumaran (Mohanlal) runs the college canteen in Mahatma College & has his hand in everything from the running of the college to the protection of the students. Sethunathan (Siddique), Education Minister, tries various tricks to acquire the college, but Kumaran foils them all. Finally, Sethunathan traps Kumaran in the form of a planned bus accident of the college tour bus Kumaran was driving, causing the death of many students, & landing the blame on Kumaran. Hariharan, a Retd. Intelligence Officer who runs a security agency, is approached by Latha (Rekha) to find out a woman named Raji (Ragini) who was blackmailing her, threatening to reveal secrets about her father. Captain Eshwar (Mammootty) & Wing Commander Zakir (Mukesh) are working on a top-secret airforce project codenamed 'Red Alert', at the Airforce Academy. A Kashmir based Islamic terrorist group, to get their hands on the project documents, blackmails & deploys a woman called Lakshmi (Mohini) to get close to Eshwar, after kidnapping her child. After Lakshmi refuses to follow through with the plan, the terrorists detain her. Eshwar, Zakir & a group of commandos launch a commando op to free her.

When Padmini's husband Chandran Nair (N.F. Varghese) made passes towards Radha, Padmini sends Radha back with Divakaran. However, Radha now insists on marrying Sasikumar, putting Divakaran in a dilemma.

Self-made businessman Balachandran (Mammootty) falls in love with & marries Nirmala (Sukanya). Soon after, his financing company & hotel is threatened when he locks horns with an influential person, K. K. Nair (Johny), for attempting to use his hotel for prostitution. Faced with a rush of investors trying to withdraw their money, Balachandran has to sell all his assets to repay them. He takes to drinking, resulting in Nirmala leaving him. A dejected Balachandran takes recourse in spirituality.

Thacholi Varghese (Mohanlal), a Kalarippayattu expert, does not believe in using his skills for violent means, restraining himself even from seeking revenge against Mathiloor Rajan Panicker, the person responsible for his father's death. However, Varghese is dragged into a conflict when he is forced to defend his disciple Shyam (Vineeth) against a false murder accusation. Then, the real Veerendran (Biju Menon), a rowdy, shows up & demands Appu's help in stealing the royal crown of the palace, in return for helping Appu get Maya back.

The new Chemistry lecturer in college, Nandakumar Varma (Mammootty), finds it tough to discourage student Sruthi (Annie) who has taken a fancy to him, even after introducing Sruthi to his disabled girlfriend Uma (Shobana), whom Nandakumar had been nursing back to health & for whom he had been remaining a bachelor. Upset over the prospect of losing Nandakumar, Sruthi rebukes Uma, causing her to have a stroke, which worsens her situation. A fully bedridden Uma now asks Nandakumar to marry Sruthi.

Ravi Varma (Kunchako Boban), in desperate need to raise 15 lakhs to get his father Prabhakara Varma (Nedumudi Venu) out of a swindling case for which he was currently jailed, meets master conman Jerry Mathew (Jayasurya) & the two hatch a scheme to defraud NRI millionaire Emir Harish Rahman (Devan) by selling him a fake painting, supposedly painted by renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma. In the process, Jerry & Ravi starts outdoing & double-crossing each other to get the proceeds for oneself.

Dasan, a young boy who lived with his mother Chandrika (Shweta Menon), finds the address of his long-gone father Divakaran, & writes him a letter. But Divakaran had moved out & the letter reaches the current resident, ad filmmaker Nandakumar Poduval (Biju Menon), who lived there with his teenage daughter Ammu (Tina Rose). Touched by the letter, Ammu starts replying to Dasan, pretending to be his dad. Dasan gets excited at the thought of having found his dad, but things get dramatic soon after.

Superintendent of Police Varghese Antony (Mohanlal) comes to Savoy Residential School in Ooty pretending to be a physical educator, in search of the child of a dreaded criminal, who Varghese suspected to be studying there & through whom Varghese hoped to get to the father.

Meanwhile Nambiar's rotund son Krishnappan woos Pillai's daughter Usha, complicating things further.

They try to teach Jeevan a lesson, which results in Jeevan's tragic death.

Tired of their dead-end jobs, Siddharth (Vineeth Kumar) & Daveed (Jacob Gregory) decide to make a quick buck & gets involved in a money laundering racket run by gangster Murugan (Shammi Thilakan), but they screw up & lose 5 lakhs. To pay off an angry Murugan, they deftly rob the jewelry meant for the wedding of ex-NRI Benny's (Prathap Pothen) daughter Nimmi (Swapna Menon). But now Murugan wants the whole loot & chases them around town for it, while Benny struggles to hold the wedding as planned.

Club dancer turned B-list actress Meera (Shweta Menon), after getting jilted by her lover & having a miscarriage after an attempted suicide, gets a new lease of life when cabbie Shyam (Biju Menon) comes into her life, but disaster strikes soon after in the form of a road accident which leaves Shyam brain dead. Hearing the news about a similar incident which happened in Israel, Meera decides to get Shyam's sperm surgically extracted & have a baby in vitro, which sparks a national debate.
