The usurer Sintram lives and breathes for money and, for this very reason; he disinherits his charitable son Floridan. Embittered, Sintram buries his fortune in the forest and hides a will in a beech tree, with his estate left to anyone who finds it. This act is the only hard physical work the old usurer has done in his life and, ironically, the exhaustion kills him. One day, Mrs. Clennam’s son, Arthur, returns home after spending years abroad, and falls head over heels in love with Amy.

These recordings were part of Valdemar Psilander’s live performance at the Royal Orfeum in Budapest, in February and March 1914. Psilander financed the show himself, and it was a mixture of film and theatre under the title Count Dahlborg’s Secret. The film footage, which unfortunately hasn’t been preserved in its entirety, opened the performance, after which Psilander himself rode onto the stage and continued the action.

The Widow Stein’s children, Vita and Arthur, are as different as night and day. Vita spends all her time taking care of her mother at home, while Arthur squanders his money at the city’s most notorious nightclubs.
