    Puthanpurackal Appukuttan Nair (Thilakan), a superstitious man lives by the words of family astrologer Narayana Panicker (Jagathi), while his son Madhavanunni (Jayaram) lives in the memory of his deceased wife. Madhavanunni later meets, & gets close to Malini (Sithara), who was his childhood friend & they marry soon after, with everyone's blessings. Their happiness is short lived however, when Malini reveals by mistake that her horoscope, upon which their marriage was based on, isn't accurate.

    Singer/storyteller Jayadevan (Suresh Gopi) comes to his birth village of Meledathu, where the families of Thekkumpurathu & Vadakkumpurathu were always at loggerheads with each other, to sing at the temple festival for Vadakkumpurathu. Thekkumpurathu invites over folk dancer Kanaka Prabha (Urvashi) to compete with Jayadevan, & after some initial spats, Kanaka Prabha & Jayadevan warms up to each other & discovers that each of them have a tragic past linked to the village & the temple.

    Hari (Jayaram) comes to Ooty to his adoptive father & famous writer N.S. Ananthapadmanabhan's (Thilakan) house after his studies, where he meets Ananthapadmanabhan's new wife, the much younger ex-actress Sudharma (Geetha). Sudharma, an accomplished classical dancer & Hari, a singer, develops a camaraderie which Hari's girlfriend Ammu (Parvathi), who had also come to stay with them, couldn't digest. Ammu's constant suspicions about Hari & Sudharma having an affair disturbs the peace of the house.

    Famous astrologer Mulankattu Gurukkal (Karamana Janardanan Nair) predicts jobless youth Balagopalan (Sreenivasan) as having a unique gift - he will bring good luck to everyone who comes in contact with him, but he or his loved ones would be unable to benefit from it. Hearing about this, local politicians & bigwigs try to kidnap Balagopalan to keep him for themselves & to benefit from his good luck charm. Balagopalan gets exploited in different ways & the charm turns out to be bad luck for him.

    Local school teacher Kannan (Siddique) has Mathukutty (Jayaram), a Christian street musician, pretend to be Sethumadhavan, a qualified Hindu bandmaster for his school band, which lead them to tell many lies to keep the act up. Jealous of being upended as the guy who brought in the bandmaster & got brownie points from the headmistress Gomathi (K.P.A.C. Lalitha), school peon Pushkaran (Jagadish), in cahoots with Gomathi's henpecked husband Govindan (Jagathi), launch a crusade to expose Mathukutty.

    Set in late 1950s Kuttanad, Guru Dasan (Lal) was a famed singer from the low-caste Pulluvar group, who had two wives, Janaki (Lakshmi Lahari) & Chakkara (Iniya). A serial womanizer, Dasan also is drawn close to Devaki (Lena), an upper-caste Brahmin & the wife of the village landlord as well. Their relationship however, results in a severe fallout for Dasan.
