Kavaleridze's silent revolutionary epic Perekop depicts the Perekop-Chongar operation (1920) during the Russian Civil War, in which the Red Army, led by Nestor Makhno's troops, defeated Wrangel, took Crimea, and, according to the axiom of Soviet historiography, ended the civil war.
