An ironic look at a climber who decides to do anything, including throwing mud at his best friend, to get a job he thinks will launch him into a better career.

Two students, Strusinski and Sniper, hate their school and one of the teachers with sadistic inclinations and a constant hangover. Not only is he an alcoholic, but also vents his frustrations upon students, nearly grown-ups, tormenting them both physically and mentally. The film is set in a small town near Warsaw, to which a young and coming director comes to produce a classic play with a modern vein. Everyone in the production gets his usual stereotypical role, but the aging idol of the ensemble senses opportunity to give the performance of his life. For young director everything is already set. Set in the 16th century in the Grand Inqusition period. Ruprecht stops overnight at an inn, and falls in love with the lovely Renata. She however, has fallen under the spell of Count Henryk, whom she believes to be an "angel of fire". The girl eventually brings him before the Inquisition.
