Yuanfang lost her love, Wubao, in Shanghai during the civil war. Years later, in Taiwan, she meets Juan Juan who just like Wubao is a singer. Memories and emotions from the past haunts her as she tries to make up to Juan Juan for what she never could do for Wubao.

1945-1947, Taiwan. A teenage couple was deeply in love despite objections from the girl's family. Their tragic story is played out in traveling troupes, tea-houses, and western-style cafes, with the backdrop of Japanese occupation and the 28 February Incident. (L.H. Wong)
