Shoichi Kofujita

After moving to the suburbs of Tokyo two brothers struggle to fit in at their new school. Their father, who made the move to have more in common with his boss, tries to help them become self assured while encountering similar problems at work.

A melodrama about an orphan and her mother who are separated and lose contact, but are later reunited. (imdb)

The central character here is Toshie (played by Emiko Yagumo, who also starred in a number of early Ozu films), a young woman who works as a secretary-typist, but wears a kimono and is relatively reserved and old-fashioned. She has fallen in love with Shozo Narita (Minoru Takada), a young man she has met through her work. (Roslindale Monogatari)

This tells the story of an aging geisha (Mitsuko Yoshikawa) who struggles to support her senior high school-aged son (?). He, however, is so embarrassed by his mother that he has begun cutting school -- and associating with a bad crowd. A young (late teen-aged?) colleague of his mother (Sumiko Mizukubo) also worries about the son, and urges him to not disappoint his mother. A farmer's boy, obsessed with his balsa-and-paper flying models and with dreams of real aircraft, develops a friendship with the daughter of the local squire, who introduces the lad to her pilot brother and his flying officer friends; through hard work, and despite the handicap of a lowly class status, he eventually succeeds in qualifying as a pilot and joining the air force.
