Remarkable for its focus on characterization and detail, Rat-Trap is set in rural Kerala. Its story concerns Unni, the last male-heir of a feudal and decaying joint family. Justice Usha Varma (Sharada) is set to pronounce her verdict on Jagmohan Pandey, a member of the Kashmir based terror group, Himani Tiger Force (HTF), for killing a dignitary. To free Jagmohan, Qureshi, HTF's current leader threatens Usha Varma & to prove that he means business, kills her son Unni. Based on the suicide of the famous Malayalam actress Shobha, 'Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback' chronicles the life of Lekha (Nalini), an aspirant who comes to Madras for joining the movies, & how she is taken advantage by everyone, including her greedy mother Vishalakshi (Shubha). Lekha finally falls in love with a director, Suresh Babu (Bharath Gopi), & hopes for a life with him, but after cheated by him too, commits suicide by hanging herself.

Vishwanathan (M.G. Soman), a painter, comes to a village in Kuttanad, his birth place, & rents the house he grew up in, with the intention of seeking revenge on Paili (Madhu), the duck farmer, who had hacked his parents to death. After an initial spat with Paili, Vishwanathan befriends him & gains entry into his home. When Vishwanathan learns that the only person whom Paili cared about in this world is his daughter Ammini (Jayabharati), Vishwanathan decides to seduce & impregnate Ammini.

After a photographer, Sabu (Boban Alumoodan), dies in a fight & he is blamed for it, Solomon (Dileep) runs away to the remote Karnataka village of Kannadahalli to hide out in the house of two spinster sisters, Anna (Sharada) & Alice John (Bharathi), who used to care for him when he was young. There, after some initial spats, Solomon is drawn close to the sisters' home nurse Sophia (Navya Nair). However, time starts running out for Solomon, while unbeknown to him, Sophia carries a tragic secret.

Krishnan (Mammootty), the foster son of Saraswathiyamma (Sharada) of the famed Eeswaramangalam family has devoted his life to the service of Saraswathiyamma & looks after the affairs of the house with earnest & honesty. When Saraswathiyamma's biological children come over for a vacation, Krishnan & Saraswathiyamma are overjoyed, but their joys are short-lived when it turns out that Saraswathiyamma's children wanted to demolish the ancestral mansion & sell off the pieces.

Aleena (Mamta Mohandas), a journalist, walks into Gracy's life with the intend of doing a documentary on her, but soon Aleena's interests also spread out to uncovering the real reasons behind Gracy's departure from the cinema & the cause of her mental illness.

Sita and Vishwam have just eloped. But their early marital bliss is interrupted by financial reality... although well-educated, they're unemployed. Unable to afford the pleasant hotel they've been staying in, they find a cheap house to rent. Vishwam, unable to sell his novel, manages to land a job as a lecturer.
