There is a decidedly Japanese flavor to this musical comedy, shot on location in Japan under the direction of Shaw Brothers' number one Japanese import, director Inoue Umetsugu. This movie is based on the famous 18th century Chinese novel with the same name, and that novel had been made into movies for several times.The movie was a box office disappointment proving that it was made at the wrong time: it was made in 1944, the year World War II ended and audience wanted something cheerful, but this novel/movie is a very tragic story and thus did not meet the taste of the public. The last Huangmei offering from Shaw studio is finally here! It was a very shrewd decision to cast Brigitte Lin, the reigning queen of the 70s Qiong Yao romances as Pao Yu and under the meticulous direction of Li Han Hsiang, she managed to pull it off and made this version of Pau Yu uniquely her own. Sylvia Chang has the esteemed role of Dai Yu but seemed miscast and tried too hard to make herself a tragic figure... (imdb)

David's friend Hanming (Yang Fan) introduces him to the lovely Danfeng (Jenny Wu), and despite Hanming's quiet infatuation with her, David moves in quickly. David and Danfeng get married, but lasting bliss is not in the cards. Mona develops a serious case of jealousy against Danfeng for snatching her brother AND being the object of Hanming's affection.

Comedy of Mismatches begins with widow Sun who single-handedly raises her son Yu Lang (Chin Feng) and daughter Zhu Yi (Li Hsiang Chun). One day, Mother Sun sends her children to the temple, where Yu Lang encounters Hui Niang (Pat Ting). Artist Xu Ya is also at the temple, praying that his daughter Wen Gu (Carrie Ku) will find a good husband. Soon after, Wen Gu encounters the nobleman’s son Pei Zheng (Wai Mao), and the two fall in love at first sight.
