A small boy (Ratnavelu) from Tamilnadu sees his father, a labor leader, killed in cold blood by a policeman. He kills the policeman and runs away to the city of Bombay. From there, the story traces his ascent to become a mafia chief (Velu Naicker), the breakup and deaths in his family, and then till his assasination at the hands of the lunatic son of another policeman who he killed in a fight. Police officer James Pallithara (Sreenivasan) is cowardly, is the butt of all office jokes, and is in stark contrast to his friend and subordinate Nandakumar (Suresh Gopi), who is young and daring. Due to a mix-up of a blood test result, Pallithara falls under the impression that he has a disease that will kill him within days. He then finds that his life insurance only pays off if he is killed in the line of duty. Pallithara becomes a supercop, ignoring danger and trying his best to get killed.

Ben Narendran (Mammootty), who decides to commit suicide because he decided that he was content with life, rescues Janaradhanan aka Janu (Jayaram), who was also about to commit suicide because he murdered someone by mistake. Having learned that Janu is the sole supporter of his family, Ben takes the blame for the murder & gets a life sentence. When Ben gets out on parole, he learns that Janu was killed by corrupt bigwig R. K. Nambiar (Murali), & he decides to bring him & his henchmen to justice.

Vetrivel aka Vel (Vijay) & his friend Ops (Vivek) goes to Malaysia to collect Rs. 5 lakhs which a businessman Gocha (Suman) owed his father Singamuthu (Manivannan), whom Vel believed ran away because of his debts. There, when Gocha refused to pay Vel, & tried to kill him, Vel steals an expensive diamond of Gocha's & comes to India, followed by Gocha's sister, Devi (Trisha), smitten with Vel. Later, Vel learns of his father being Gocha's captive in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh & goes there to free him.

One of the twin sons of a family gets stolen during a train journey, after which the child grows up in another family as the son of a childless couple, as Vetrivel aka Vel (Surya). Meanwhile the other kid grows up to be a private detective, Vasudevan (Surya). Vasudevan's girlfriend Swathi (Asin) runs across Vel & informs Vasudevan about him. After Vel & Vasudevan realize that they are brothers, they decide to switch places, & Vasudevan takes on Vel's arch rival Sakkara Pandi (Kalabhavan Mani).

Injakkadan Mathai (Innocent) & sons Thankachan (Suresh Gopi) & Roy (Jagadish) run a gainful cloth shop while a rival store run by the Chungathara family is at a loss, much to the latter's ire. After Thankachan weds Beena (Saranya), daughter of an old pal of Mathai, Thommichan, Chungathara misleads David (Rajan P. Dev), Beena's uncle, into thinking that Mathai had killed Thommichan. Hearing this, Beena's sister Shirley (Urvashi) moves in with Mathai's family, to take revenge for her dad's murder.

LtCol Dr. Rajalakshmi (Saranya) has 2 girls - the docile elder Pooja (Bhama) & the unruly Pinky (Roma), who anchors a hidden camera prank show on TV called 'Colors'. Pinky overturns her cameraman Rahul's (Vinu Mohan) overtures in favor of LCDR Sanjay Nath's (Dileep), her childhood friend & rival prankster, after some initial spats with each other. Rajalakshmi, meanwhile, unaware of this, plans Sanjay's marriage to Pooja. Now, Pinky has to choose between Sanjay's love & her family's happiness.

'Kireedam' is the remake of the landmark Malayalam film of the same name, directed by Sibi Malayil & written by Lohitadas. The Tamil version has Ajith and Trisha in the lead role along with Raj Kiran essaying an important role. Kesavan Kutty (Sreenivasan), a contractor who was in charge of building 3 houses in Ernakulam for Georgekutty (Murali), an expat in the US, is forced to rent them out without Georgekutty's knowledge, to raise some cash to repay a debt, & chaos ensue after the tenants from different cultural backgrounds clash with each other. Then Georgekutty unexpectedly plans a visit & Kesavan Kutty is forced to try & get the tenants to leave on short notice.

Annamma (Padmini), an elderly grandmother, gets a chance to come to the US to visit her two sons Jose (Lalu Alex) & Alex (Mukesh), who were settled in the US. After reaching the US, however, the initial euphoria soon wears off for Annamma when she realizes that she is not able to accept the American culture & watches the turmoil in her sons' families as they fight over money & her grandchildren go astray.

Kathirvelan (Udhayanidhi Stalin), a devotee of Lord Hanuman who was a sworn celibate, falls head over heels for Pavithra (Nayanthara), his sister's (Chaya Singh) neighbor. Trying to woo Pavithra, Kathirvelan has to deal with her current boyfriend Gautam (Sunder Ramu), his brother-in-law Shanmugam's (Bharath Reddy) enmity with Pavithra's father Mahalingam (V. Jayaprakash) & his own father (Aadukalam Naren), who is allergic towards the idea of falling in love.
