A group of international criminals steal a large emerald from a heavily guarded Colombian mine and they plan to sell it on the black market. Unfortunately, the evil Dr. Igor is also manipulating other criminals, as well as the ones who stole the emerald, for his own benefit. Santo, a Mexican wrestler/Interpol agent works with the Colombian authorities in an attempt to recover the emerald and to stop Dr. Igor and his subordinates, as well. (imdb)

The plot starts as mysterious criminal (Antonio Pica), damages the famous painting "Los Borrachos" during its exhibition on a Mexican museum. Spain's government demands an investigation and soon the Interpol suspects that Dr. Mann (Georges Rigaud), the man hired for the restoration of the painting is in fact behind its damage. Since his wrestling tour will take him to Spain, Special Agent Santo is called to work incognito.

This Santo film is loaded with well-choreographed fight scenes both in and out of the ring, and is one of the most action-packed films in the series. A mysterious killer has been strangling women in a variety theater, and the police decide to bring Santo into the investigation. Santo suspects the killer is hiding undercover as one of the theater employees and must discover his true identity before more women are murdered.

The movie starts when a group of lepers escape from the sanatorium they have been locked and start to terrorize people of the nearby town. Knowing that the lepers only want to be free, the Sheriff (Julio Aldama) manages to control the population's fears. However, soon the lepers begin a criminal rampage and the mob wants nothing but revenge. The Sheriff still doubts the lepers are responsible of the crimes, so in order to avoid a lynching he calls Santo, the legendary crime fighter for help. (imdb)

The action opens in the past with an ancestor of El Santo, who also fights against evil. In so doing, he goes up against rich but unsavory Baron Brakola, who's interested in a local girl, Rebecca. When she refuses him, the Baron is incensed. The girl's family calls in Santo's ancestor to prevent tragedy, but Brakola turns the girl into a vampire. The best the silver-garbed hero can o is drive a steak through her heart, releasing her spirit. (imdb)

Making very good use of a creepy score and some genuinely atmospheric cinematography, THE WORLD OF THE DEAD turns out to be one of the better Santo movies. Our hero gets the lion's share of time on screen, and is, in fact, aided and abetted by longtime friendly rival Blue Demon. Blue, it turns out, has been resurrected by a witch to help dispense her own particular brand of justice to the Santo of today, whose ancestor brought about her untimely demise. (imdb)

The Santo film Profanadores de Tumbas could easily hold its own against the anarchic absurdity of classics like Un Chien Andalou and L'Age D'or. It is accompanied and complimented by the jagged editing, disjointed narrative flow and weird, minimalist sets that are typical of the four micro budget features Santo did for producer Luis Enrique Vergara in the mid sixties.
