Take a nostalgic journey circa 1960s Bombay with it's quiet, peaceful and scenic background, trams, and a unique taxi driver, Mangal, who is called "Hero" by his friends. A driver who drives a cab by day, then drinks at night, listens to his singer girlfriend, Sylive, and then goes into a drunken stupor - and wakes up with a hangover. Sunita (Asha Parekh) who goes to Mussoorie with her college hockey team, is also determined to avenge the death of her sister Rupa. Rupa had apparently committed suicide when she was rejected by her lover Rocky (Shammi Kapoor), a drummer in the hotel's jazz band. Rocky meets her and, wise to her intentions, disguises his identity. The two fall in love. The story takes a twist when the police realize that Rupa was actually murdered.

Shri 420 is the tale of a country boy, Raj (Raj Kapoor), who travels to the big city to earn a living. He falls in love with the poor but virtuous Vidya (Nargis), but is soon seduced by the riches of a freewheeling and unethical lifestyle presented to him by an unscrupulous businessman Seth (Nemo) and the sultry temptress Maya (Nadira). He eventually becomes a swindler, or "420." Ultimately, Raj forsakes his greedy and dishonest ways.

The amicable village postmaster, Nivaran, receives a large check, with the instructions to turn it over to the most honest man in the village. Five village 'nobles' are selected for elections, four of which then proceed to mendaciously bend over backwards to be seen as charitable and benign. The four dishonest men scheme to oust the fifth, the schoolteacher, Rajat, as he is naturally in favor with the populace--this places in peril Rajat's chances for love with the postmaster's daughter, Seema.

Madan (played by Dev Anand) is a former cabbie who is a genius at gambling. His sister becomes sick with tuberculosis and to pay her hospital bills, he's drawn into a life of crime.

Carlos lives with his sister, Maria, off of the Indian coast in a fishing village. One day a mysterious young woman, Lisa, enters their lives, followed by a mysterious man, Tony. Maria and Tony fall in love with each other. The question remains: who exactly are Lisa and Tony, and what is the reason behind their presence on this fishing community; and whether or not Maria is being drawn into a web of lies and deceit at the hands of Tony. Nimmo convinces Ashok to give up this life of crime, and begin anew. Ashok agrees, and then when he has not eaten for two or three days, he realizes that it is not that easy to be an honest man...

After leaving British Army Ramesh joins a tea plantation as a supervisor, where he is required to harass Indians. Gradually his heart changes and falls in love with a local girl and revolts against his British employer.

Girdharilal lives a poor lifestyle in Delhi along with his wife, Geeta, and two daughters, and a son. He works as a Money Order Clerk in the Post Office, earns Rs.110/- per Mensem, and wears a torn coat that his wife is tired of stitching.
