A group of strangers - Asha (Nanda), Anand (Manoj Kumar), Rakesh (Pran), Dr. Acharya (Madan Puri), Kitty (Helen), Kishan (Manmohan), Dharamdas (Dhumal) & Madhusudan Sharma (Tarun Bose) - become marooned on a desolated island after a plane carrying them dumps them there & scrams. They find an old manor on the island, where a butler (Mehmood) greets them upon arrival & appears to have been waiting for them. However, the group is soon overcome with fear as they are killed off one by one by someone.

An engineer who works in the countryside begins writing letters to the young woman in the city arranged to be his wife but who he has never met. The woman isn't interested, however, and has her younger sister respond to the letters. Soon the younger sister is putting her own feelings in her replies, and the pen pals start to fall in love. Meeting each other, however, proves difficult and leads to joy, confusion, and a seemingly unavoidable tragedy....
