Krishnankutty (Mohanlal), a quarry contractor with a rough exterior & a good heart, spends his life boozing & fighting. When he gets foxed into marrying a pregnant woman Rajamma (Menaka), although angry, he doesn't kick her out of his life, but cares for her & her daughter Nalini, after she is born. At this point, Gopi (Shankar), Rajamma's old lover comes to the village as an Engineer for building a bridge. Having never told Krishnankutty who Nalini's father was, Rajamma is now in a predicament.

When Revathi Menon (Lizy) refuses to meet her sick father Balan Menon (Gopi), whom she separated from when she was 3 years old when her parents separated & whom she had avoided for the past 16 years, Revathi's roommate & friend Suzanna (Radha), who was an orphan & pined for a father's love, goes to see Balan Menon, pretending to be Revathi.

Unni (Mukesh), Rajendran (Siddique) & Salim (Sainuddin) were 3 friends who were enjoying the fun of bachelorhood & into their lives walked in Indu (Radha), their new coworker. Unni & Indu fall in love & get married, unbeknownst to their parents, but their plans of living together falls apart when Unni's parents come to visit, with the intention of getting Unni married to his eccentric cousin Minikutty (Kalpana).

Shankaran (Mohanlal), a Brahmin youth, lives in constant frustration at being unemployed, with a drunkard father who used to be a famous singer & his stepmother & stepsister. His frustration at life causes him to snub the overtures of Bhama (Ambika) who was in love with Shankaran. After a showdown with his family, Shankaran leaves for Madras, while Bhama is married off elsewhere. However, Shankaran & Bhama meet again in Madras & he learns of her loveless married life with Mani Iyer (Murali).

Unable to tolerate the worries of the villagers, Raja takes aid of a fairy tale hero 'Kondaveeti Donga', transforms himself into one and sets out to save the people from an evil hypnotizer Kadra.

Ambi arrives in Kumbakonam from Delhi to see his ailing father. His father, an orthodox religious scholar, revered for his knowledge in vedic studies, is now ill, having only his memories to accompany him. The state of his father is a shock to Ambi. The two fell out over Ambi's love and subsequent marriage to a Christian girl Sweetie. Barely able to recognize his son now, Vembu Iyer ponders in total silence, as Janaki, Ambi's mother, shares with her son what has happened since he left for Delhi.

A man sets out on a mission, full of impediments and villains, to find the treasures hidden by his father in order to free his mother from prison.
