Sathyaa (Kamal Hassan), a young man, along with his friends fights the injustice and corruption in his society. This causes him to lock horns with the corrupt local M.L.A. and his goons. Amala plays Sathyaa's love interest Geetha and the movie has hit songs by Ilayaraja.

Guna (Kamal Hasan) is a mentally challenged person who, while undergoing treatment in a mental asylum, gets told by someone in the asylum about a fictitious character named Abirami. Guna starts obsessing with the idea of finding Abirami and marrying her. After coming out of the asylum, he believes the story to be true and searches for his Abirami. One day, in the midst of being an unwilling partner to a robbery at a temple, he mistakes a rich girl Roshini (Roshini) to be Abirami and kidnaps her.

Inbasekar (Madhavan), a strong-armer, shoots Michael (Surya), a student leader, off his motorbike on Napier bridge in Chennai. Michael flies off his bike & falls into the river below, with a bystander student Arjun (Siddharth) being the sole witness to the shooting. The film then flashbacks into each of their lives, starting a few months ago, to bring things up to the present day shooting.

Sambandham (Kamal Haasan), a typical bejewelled, garish looking stunt master in film and a confirmed bachelor, tries to help his brother Anand (Abbas) who is caught in the quagmire of matrimony. Anand had fallen in love, eloped, and gotten married. His wife Malathi (Sneha) harasses her husband to no end on the advice of her friend, Janaki (Simran Bagga), a sworn spinster. Later, Kamal falls in love with Simran and takes steps to marry her.

Honest police officer Sethupathi (Kamal) arrests four high profile crooks Dharmaraj (Nagesh), Francis (Delhi Ganesh), Nallasivam (Nasser) and Satyamoorthy(Jaishankar). They get out of jail, kill Sethupathi and poison his pregnant wife. She somehow gives birth to twins, who are separated and grow up as Appu (Kamal) a circus clown, and Raja (still Kamal) a mechanic. Eventually Appu finds out about his father's death and plots his vengeance.

In 1920s India, a young boy named Charles befriends a baby Indian elephant that he names Ele. Their friendship is tested when Charles must save his friend Ele from hunters. (imdb)
