'Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal' is the tale of a famous singer Mani Bharathi (Rahman) and his extremely jealous wife (Geetha). Tricked into marriage by his conniving mother-in-law, what really irks Mani is his wife's inability to deal with his female fans. Tensions escalate until Mani flees from home and ends up encountering Jothi (Sithara) who's also escaping from her married life.

With the aim of pleasing his dearest friend, a heart patient, & giving him a memorable vacation before he returned back to America, Kaimal (Nedumudi) recruits a thief Vishnu (Mohanlal), to act as the husband of his dearest friend's daughter Kalyani (Renjini), after Kalyani was snubbed by her lover Ravi (Shanawas) on the day of their wedding. After some initial spats, Vishnu & Kalyani gets attracted to each other, but soon Kalyani learns that Vishnu has a tragic past & an even more tragic future.

After a nearly fatal car accident erases her memory, party girl Bhagyalakshmi (Sridevi), now with the mental growth of only a 6-year-old, gets lured into a brothel, but Sreenivasan aka Cheenu, a schoolteacher takes pity on her & takes her away with him to Ooty. Over time, the two forge a special relationship & Bhagyalakshmi becomes a vital part of Cheenu's life, unbeknown to the fact that the authorities were on the hunt for the missing girl.

Krishnaswamy (Kamal Hassan), a village simple & widower living with his daughter Kaveri (Mahanadhi Shobana), son Bharani & mother-in-law, gets duped into opening a chit fund by con man Dhanush (Cochin Hanifa). Dhanush absconds with the deposits & Krishna is blamed & jailed. Behind bars, Krishna has to deal with the atrocities of the prison & after his release, he learns that his kids are missing. With ex-cellmate Iyer (Poornam) & his daughter Yamuna's (Sukanya) help, he goes in search of them.

Hari (Mohanlal), a welder living in the red-light district of Kamathipura in Mumbai, witnesses a gang-related murder & gets inadvertently involved with the Mumbai underworld. Amar Pakiya (Mahesh Anand), the reigning underworld don of Mumbai, orders the murder of the benevolent local boss Mudaliar (Poornam Vishwanathan), thus taking over Kamathipura's rule till Hari protests their atrocities & fights back. Fighting his way up the crime ladder, Hari soon becomes a name for Pakiya to contend with.

Hindi-speaking collegian Sapna lives a wealthy lifestyle in Dona Paula, near Panaji, Goa, India, along with her Professor dad, Kundanlal, and mom. Their immediate neighbors are Tamil-speaking vegetarian tenants, V. Sivaramakrishan, his wife, Vandana and son, Vasudevan, and detest the Kundanlals' meat-eating habits.
