The nobleman Dmitri is at court as a juror. In an accused prostitute he recognizes a maid which he had seduced years ago. He wants to help Katjuscha out of her current misery, but she is convicted by mistake and sent to a prison in Siberia. The movie is based on the novel by Leo Tolstoi.
