A group of five field-biologists travel to northern Sweden to investigate the effects of a forest fire. However, the results of their measurements are unlike anything that could be caused by a normal fire. After they find an unusual creature that doesn't resemble anything they have seen before members of the group start acting strangely.

When Erica finds Fjällbacka's photographer Stigge murdered in his studio, she can't help but take interest in the investigation regarding his death. Patrik and his colleagues at the Fjällbacka police soon starts to question whether or not Stigge was the sweet old man he seemed to be.
