The first Canadian instance of Black Cinema combines three storylines, tied together by the voice of the eponymous pirate radio hostess' voice.

Mahree Bok lives on a farm in South Africa. Her father is a policeman who cannot hide his joy when activist Steve Biko is caught by the South African authorities. Piper Dellums is the daughter of a US congressman from California and who lives in a nice home in Washington DC. When Mahree is chosen to spend a semester at the Dellums' house, she doesn't expect that her host family would be black. Nor do her hosts suspect that she is not a black South African.

Mary is a substance abuse counsellor with a drinking problem. After getting arrested for drunk driving and losing her job, Mary returns to her hometown where she learns that her estranged father is dying of cancer and wants her to form a bond with her teenage half-sister she's never met. (imdb)

Randal 'Randy' Ackers loses his family savings and the company's reserve funds in an 'easy profit scheme' and commits suicide. His widow Dianne hopes to build a new life in California but gets stuck with car trouble in Texas. To pay for the repairs, she becomes waitress Dee Dee in a diner. There the swindler, who apparently doesn't recognize Diane, recruits 'Dee Dee' ... (imdb)

It follows a singer-songwriter in a downward spiral as she takes a last effort gig at a motorcycle rally in South Dakota where she meets Casey, a guitarist who walked away from his dream long ago.
