The Boy and the Water is a children's movie about the summer of a seven-year-old boy. The story begins when the boy catches a salamander from a nearby stream. Having heard the story of the frog prince the boy immediately knows what to do. As he kisses the salamander it promptly turns into a young girl. Elli, a finnish storage house worker, has never traveled further south than to Estonia. Hope of a trip abroad is the only thing that inspires her in a suburban life seemingly fruitful for cynicism. Unfortunately a friend struggling with drug abuse gives her savings away. At the same time Elli meets Heze, a lonely teenage boy from a well-off family.
