An Air Force captain inadvertently volunteers to make the first manned flight around the moon. He immediately falls under the watchful protection of various security agencies, but despite all their precautions, a young woman who may be an enemy spy succeeds in making contact with the captain. Summarily accused of murder, drifters Duke (Foran), Pancho (Carrillo) and Andy (Devine) are tossed into the hoosegow, only to be released when their alibi checks out. Far from offended by his ill treatment, Duke agrees to take the job of sheriff, retaining Pancho and Andy as his deputies. The gruesome threesome then sets about to solve a series of mysterious Wells Fargo robberies.

Trailed by Marshal Charley Blythe (Stanley Price), who thinks they are part of the Cyclone Kid (John Cason)bandit gang, Shamrock Ellison (James Ellison) and Lucky Hayden (Russell Hayden), are attacked by the outlaws. Blythe helps the pair drive off the outlaws but is wounded in the process and stops to recuperate. The Cyclone Kid has plans to take over an oil-rich ranch, which by right belongs to Shamrock, though he doesn't know it.

Whip arrives to investigate why night raiders are ransacking cabins but taking nothing. He recognizes the saloon owner as the man that went to prison for a robbery committed five years earlier in which the money was never recovered. He then learns the Sheriff was his partner in that robbery but escaped. It appears the Sheriff has hidden the money and Whip now tries to trick him to revealing it's location.
