The plot is set in the 1940's in a village of Travancore, British India. Kaliyappan, the last hangman of Travancore dynasty is dragging his remaining life by consuming alcohol and worshipping the Mother Goddess. Ajayan Menon (Mohanlal), having made his fortune in the Middle East, has settled down in his home village to be with his mother Ammukutty Amma (Sheela) & lead a peaceful life. The movie lays open the ego clashes & complexities of a period through the eyes of its lead character Thanupillai (Lal), who witnesses the lives of 3 women - his mother, wife & son's girlfriend.

In a fishing community, a young girl named Thamara (Namitha Pramod) lives on her own at the shore & fishes for a living after the death of her father. She rescues an old man called K.P. (Nedumudi Venu) from a suicide attempt & she feels a father-like bond towards him. However the old man turns out to be not quite what he seemed & keeps changing his story causing for Thamara & her friends to go on a quest to find out K.P.'s real identity.

A portmanteau movie of three different couples - Khadar (Manoj K.Jayan) & his wife Jameela (Mallika), Major Frederic Mukundan (Lal) & his wife Reetha (Rituparna Sengupta), Balachandran (Biju Menon) & his wife Indulekha (Swapna Menon), & their relationships, whilst the filmmaker Raj Karthik (Kunchacko Boban) himself struggles with the idea of popping the question to his girlfriend Jeena (Bhama).

Vivekanandan (Jayaram), struggling to pay off his father's debts & his own, finally he decides to rob a house to raise cash, but ends up entering into a contract with the owner of the house Harinarayanan (Suresh Krishna) to kill his wife Devika (Mallika), as Harinarayanan suspected Devika to be having an affair with his womanizer friend Venkita Krishnan (Kailash). Vivekanandan, along with his friends Najeeb Kecheri (Sudheesh) & Keshavan (Anoop Chandran) try to get close to Devika.

Balraj Sahni is brother of Nirupa Roy. Sameer is son of Nirupa Roy and Vinod Khanna is son of Balraj Sahni. They both live in a same house but due to difference between Nirupa Roy and Balraj Sahni's wife and Nirupa Roy takes her son to another house. At the end how they unite have to watch Pyar Ka Rishta.
