When a police officer is shot arresting a car thief, Captain Barnaby uses his skills and contacts to track down the culprits and uncovers a bank heist plan in the process. Barnaby has no qualms about bending the law to achieve his ends, including trumped up charges to persuade his only witness to cooperate or detaining some call girls to coerce their madam to help him. In the meantime he deals with everyday police business, juggling seemingly trivial matters with more serious ones. (imdb)

Canadian Mountie Steve Wagner captures a German Luftwaffe officer on a spy mission, who later escapes from the prison camp. To catch the spy ring, the Mounties employ a ruse so that the spies, believing Steve to be sympathetic, enlist him in their plans.

A gambler comes into town to testify before the grand jury. He is killed by the mob before he can testify. Joe Geary (Kennedy) is fired from the police force for being soft on crime. This is a setup between him and the Police Chief so that Geary can infiltrate the gangsters. Geary then goes to prison when the police chief is killed. Geary escapes from prison and with the governor's help proves he is innocent and cleans up the mob. (imdb)

The Unwritten Code is an offbeat, better-than-average Columbia wartime "B" picture. Though Ann Savage and Tom Neal are top-billed, the central character is supporting-actor Roland Varno. He plays a Nazi spy who sneaks into the U.S., hoping to release hundreds of German prisoners. He fails, but not until plenty of bullets have been spent. (New York Times)

Police Chief Jim Murphy, in a crime-ridden city, deputizes newspaper-reporter Sam Wire, to work as an undercover operative to rid the town of the gangster element. Sam taunts and tricks the two leading gangsters, a mob girl, 'Silk" Cantrell, and a bribe-taking police official, into setting ambushes and death-traps for him, which backfire on them, and achieve his assignment directive.

Japanese and Nazi forces co-ordinate raids on an island in the Pacific where penicillin is being developed.

Government undercover agents William Dennis (Don Terry) and Joan Bradley (Julie Bishop as Jacqueline Wells) are working to solve the disappearances of girls working as "taxi-dancers" from dance halls operated by Jack Miranda (Arthur Loft) and his henchman Nifty (Paul Fix). Dennis sets himself up as a theatrical booking agent, and shows his power by the opening and closing of Miranda's Paradise Club at will.

The sixth in The Shadow series of shorts from Universal. In this one the circus trapeze artist falls to her death when someone flips the light switch just as she starts her famed triple somersault. It only takes the circus manager about fifteen minutes to figure out the obvious suspect was the guilty one.

Det. Norman Craig assumes the identity of a dead bank robber (killed in a police shoot out), Red Murray, so he can infiltrate the prison and find three other bank robbers that the police are looking for. Things are going fine until Craig's partner is found dead in his cell with a bullet hole in his head. The plot thickens as Craig now tries to find the robbers and the murderer of his partner.
