Lenin Rajendran

Bhadra Nair (Samyuktha Varma) comes to the village of Sivapuram in Tamil Nadu, the birth place of her dad Madhavan Nair (Laxmi Rattan), along with her family. There, she starts learning classical music with Ramanuja Shastrikal (Biju Menon) & falls in love with him, but separates with him after opposition from her family. Years later, Bhadra is unhappily married to Chandran (Lal), a computer engineer & alcholic. Bhadra finds solace in poetry & memories of the Sivapuram days.

Meera (Meera Jasmine) falls in love & marries crippled Harikrishnan aka Hari (Vineeth), who used to be a dancer at Mohini Natya Mandir run by Mohini (Chithra Iyer). Hari, who harbored dreams of an independent dance project without influence from Mohini, gathers Mohini's artists, including lead dancer Vivek (Manoj K. Jayan) & sets to work. Meera, meanwhile, develops a fear of men because of her sexless marriage & Hari starts suspecting Meera of unfaithfulness, resulting in Meera leaving Hari.

Manu (Rony Vincent) & Annie (Shantikrishna) were lovers & friends from childhood. However, Annie's friendship with her classmate Ananthu (Venu Nagavalli) doesn't bode well with the overly sensitive & jealous Manu, & Manu starts suspecting Annie's fidelity. This strains their relationship & Manu starts seeing another girl, Lalimol (Anitha), to get back at Annie.

Ravi (Suresh Gopi), an educated young man, comes to a hermitage called 'Santhipuram' run by Vishnuji (Charu Haasan), to serve the poor & the needy, & his pal Gopan (Jayaram) follows suit as part of his research project. Ravi is charmed by Vishnuji, but Gopan gets suspicious about dubious activities going on in the place. Then one day Gopan witnesses Ravi being attacked by strangers & Ravi subsequently disappears. Ravi is suspected dead & Thomas Mathew (Thilakan), Crime Branch SP, investigates.

'Makaramanju' depicts the tale of the famous Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma (Santhosh Sivan) during the stage in his life as he is painting his famous work 'Urvashi & Pururavas'. Varma's model is Suganda Baai (Karthika Nair) with whom Varma falls in love, & as he recites the story of Pururavas (Santhosh Sivan) & Urvashi (Karthika Nair) to Suganda, their own relationship begins to acquire certain shades of the legend.
