Pat and Madjid are two young Arabs living in Northern Paris. Madjid hangs out with his gang or roams through the suburbs with his friend Pat in search of money, sex or other diversions. An outlaw existence between small-time adventures, petty crime, minor drug deals and outright robbery. Pat takes it all in pleasurably, adopting the stance of the cynic. The more sensitive Madjid, on the other hand, starts to see the situation as a one-way trip into the pit of despair.

Claire, a young magistrate at the law court in Lyon, meets Stéphane, an experienced, disillusioned magistrate who she involves in her fight against over-indebtedness.
