Katerina Evangelakou

Philio, widow of a resistance hero comes from Boston to Athens to settle hereditary affairs, in favor of her son who also is abroad. She is welcomed by Dimitra, who tries to persuade her to denounce her portion of the inheritance as 'she had left to marry an American". Philio however fights back: she has never married again and her dead's husband behavior is not exactly as his sister remembers...

All indications were that Maraki was made for great things and yet she cops out: she refuses to take the university entrance exams and is left behind in the country town selling fruit tarts. No one can figure out how she got left behind or why she isn't mad at fate for having wronged her so flagrantly. How does she manage to be so creative and optimistic, ready to do battle with the everyday injustices of life? She appears to understand something that all the others ignore. (imdb)
