J.K. (Sanjeev Kumar), a hotel Manager, gallantly comes to the rescue of Aarti (Suchitra Sen), a drunk daughter of a politician, and chooses to be discrete about it. Later they fall in love, get married and have a daughter, but differences arise to such an extent that they decide to separate. Years later, J.K. and Aarti meet again when she is an established politician. Both are still attracted to each other, but she doesn't want her political image tarnished by being known as a "separated" woman.
