Dr. Selvam joins Saktivel college with the joint responsibility of History professor and Vice Principal. Seeing that the college is under the grips of Ramesh (Reghu), son of dreaded politico Veluchamy & their goons, Selvam fights back. Meanwhile, English professor Vasanthi (Gautami) develops a soft corner for Selvam.

Two close friends, Aniruddhan (Mammootty) & Sukumaran (Mohanlal), marry each others' younger sisters, Neelima (Kavita Thakur) & Sujatha (Shobana), respectively.
