Later, Martin is killed, and Bull Jackson (Marshall Reed), who claims to have seen the crime, accuses Dave of the murder.

Kate Hilton, returning to her ranch in Springfield via stagecoach after learning of the murder of her father, meets U.S. Marshal Nevada Jack McKenzie. The stage is held up and robbed of the rancher's money, but Nevada manages to bring it in after the driver has been killed. Sandy Hopkins, also a U.S. Marshal, is posing as a cook at the only café in town. Joel Edwards now running the Wells Fargo office after Hilton was killed, and Kate are in love.

Because town cut-throat Phil Randall wants the ranch owned by "Pop" McGee on which is located a valuable silver deposit, he frames McGee on a cattle rustling charge, and the old man is sentenced to hang. "Boots" Annie is determined to save him, so she sends for U.S. Marshals Nevada Jack McKenzie and Sandu Hopkins, who rescue McGee from jail on the eve of his hanging. They then set out to gather the evidence to clear McGee and convict the real villains.

Saved from a lynching party when Molly Denton (Nell O'Day) and Nina Kincaid (Anne Nagel) bring proof of mistaken identity, roving cowpuncher Steve Hardin (Johnny Mack Brown) is offered a job as a stagecoach guard by Molly's father Joseph Denton (Henry Hall). When Denton is ambushed and killed in an attempt to get a gold shipment through to the next town, Steve signs on himself and his sidekick, Clem Clemmons (Fuzzy Knight), as driver and guard for the stage line.

U.S. Marshals Nevada Jack McKenzie and Sandy Hopkins are working undercover to capture a gang stealing horses from the Navajos, and to capture the killer of a Ranger. Nevada poses as an outlaw to get in with the gang and find the leader, while Sandy pretends to be a drunken old horse thief that has knowledge of where the Navajos have hidden their ponies.

Jim Fowler is Western University's football hero and is constantly besieged by reporters. Jim's father Ezra comes to visit him and becomes reacquainted with an old Western football chum, Mr. Chandler, who happens to be the father of Jim's girlfriend Joan. One of the most recycled plots of the B-western genre in which a friend/brother of a lawman/Ranger/Mountie is killed by a gang of outlaws, and the lawman/Ranger/Mountie quits his job (as a ruse), turns outlaw (in a fashion) and joins the gang to bring them to justice. Columbia alone made two versions with Buck Jones and also used it for Charles Starrett and Russell Hayden later on.

In order to obtain a stage coach mail contract, a new road must be built. A gang of outlaws try to prevent the building of the road.

When a gold strike turns a ghost town into a boom town, Gorman arrives to open his crooked gambling hall and Judge Harkins arrives to bring law and order. Johnny Mack returns to Pony Mesa, where his friend Alibi gives him a letter from Mary, granddaughter of his former boss Brimstone, asking Johnny to forget his quarrel with the old man and return and save the ranch. On the way there, Johnny shoots Steve Dallas after the latter kills the stagecoach driver in a robbery attempt. The outlaw's 13-year-old brother Larry accuses Johnny of killing Steve without reason, not knowing his brother was a wanted outlaw for a bank holdup.

Johnny Mack Brown, operating out of the Marshal's office, poses as a band bandit and stage robber, aided by his friend, stage driver Clancy, in order to learn the identity of a gang that has been pulling off stagecoach and bank robberies. The gang is headed by widowed ranch owner Ma Posey and includes Blackie Marshall, Deuce Logan, Tad and a traveling bank examiner, Fleming, who tips the gang off on money movement.

This somewhat off-the-beaten-path-formula for a Saturday matinée B-western has Johnny Mack Brown being hired by stageline owner Chet Norman to stop a series of stagecoach holdups that always take place when the driver, Pete, sees a mystery rider and hears the weird notes of a silver whistle. Sheriff Dave Holland, in love with Chet's niece, Beth Fairchild, and jealous of Johnny, gives grudging help.

As he dies from the wounds received from the Morrow outlaw gang, the sheriff of King City, Texas hands his badge to his deputy, Tod Merrick. In the Morrow gang are Bart Morrow, his son Steve and Ed Mason. Texas Ranger Johnny Mack Brown is assigned to the case. Johnny meets Tod who is also visited by Bart, who is his father, who once forced Tod to help in a bank robbery before Tod left and tried to make a new life under an assumed name.
