This romance is set during the Dartmouth College Winter Carnival and follows the exploits of a woman recently divorced from a count who has returned to her alma mater for the annual carnival. A former carnival queen, she watches as her lovely little sister vies for the title. She also flirts with her stodgy old boy friend, a professor. Romance blooms amid the din and colorful activities.

A jockey is unjustly accused of drugging his horse at the county fair, having been framed by a jealous rival. He leaves town with a friend, and tries to make a new start. As they are traveling, they discover a very fast horse which is owned by a brother and sister who live on a farm, and they all decide to enter the horse in a race. But the father of the two young persons refuses to allow the horse to be used for anything except farm work.

A power-broker ward-heeler, Bill Grimes, wields more power than the elected politicians and has no problem in getting matters-of-the-city handled in which ever way is best for his needs. But when he tries to fix his adored kid brother's place on the school football team, he meets his match in school-teacher Anne Barry. Jimmy, the brother, is not a scholar and the teacher rules he can't play until he gets his school grades up...and that's final.

Tommy Blake, a tough student at the Garfield Reform School, is given a chance to straighten his life when a friend of his father's, John Frazier, offers to enroll him at the State Naval Academy. Tommy accepts the offer and soon befriends new recruits Steve Kendall, the son of a high-ranking naval officer, and Dick Brewster, a spoiled snob who complains about the academy's paltry two-dollar-a-week allowance.
