In a remote part of southern China, a mysterious Westerner appears on a riverbank, completely naked. Taken to the local police station and afterwards to the hospital, he refuses to speak. The hospital's orderly, Jiang, befriends the stranger. When Jiang learns that the Westerner is about to be transferred to a mental asylum, he decides to rescue him and takes him to his uncle's village.
